Over the years, the brand's ownership transitioned from public ownership to private. In 2016, Lexmark was acquired by a consortium led by Apex Technology and PAG Asia Capital. Today, the brand operates as a major subsidiary of the Ninestar Corporation. While research and development continue to have a significant presence in the United States, manufacturing is distributed globally, with major facilities in China and Mexico.
