Denon is a legendary Japanese electronics brand that has been a pioneer in audio technology since its founding in 1910. Originally established as part of Nippon Chikuonki Shokai (Japan Recorders Corporation), the name 'Denon' was derived from a merger with Japan Denki Onkyo. The brand has a rich history of innovations, including developing the first professional-use disc recorder and pioneering digital audio technology.
While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in Japan, its manufacturing footprint is global. Many of its modern consumer hi-fi components, such as this CD player, are manufactured in Vietnam to balance high-quality production with competitive costs.
In terms of corporate ownership, Denon underwent a significant merger with Marantz in 2002 to form D&M Holdings. In 2017, D&M Holdings was acquired by Sound United LLC, a US-based company. Most recently, in 2022, Sound United was acquired by Masimo Corporation, a global medical technology company headquartered in Irvine, California. As of 2024 and looking toward 2026, Masimo remains the ultimate owner company, overseeing Denon's operations through its specialized consumer audio division.
