Batchelors Smash is a quintessential British brand of instant mashed potato. Originally launched in the 1960s, it became a cultural icon in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s, largely due to its famous 'Martian' television advertisements. The product is made by processing real potatoes into dehydrated flakes that can be reconstituted with boiling water and milk.
Historically, the brand was launched by Cadbury's, but it has changed hands several times through consolidations in the food industry. Today, it is part of the Premier Foods portfolio, following their acquisition of the Campbell’s Soup Company's UK operations and other brands. The product is primarily manufactured within the United Kingdom to serve the domestic market, maintaining its long-standing position as a household cupboard staple.
