GBC, which stands for General Binding Corporation, is a prominent name in the office equipment industry, particularly known for its binding and lamination solutions. Founded in 1947 by William N. Lane and two partners in Chicago, Illinois, the company originally aimed to serve the binding needs of local printers. Over the decades, GBC introduced several industry firsts, including the first electric desktop mechanical binding punch in 1961 and the tabletop laminator in 1966.
In 2005, GBC merged with ACCO Brands, a world leader in branded office products. Today, GBC operates as a specialized brand under the ACCO Brands Corporation umbrella. While the brand has its roots and headquarters in the United States, its manufacturing operations for consumer-grade office machines, such as the PHOTO A4 Laminator, are primarily centered in China to leverage global supply chain efficiencies. The brand continues to be a market leader, providing document protection and presentation tools for schools, offices, and professional print environments worldwide.
