Pantagruel is an iconic Portuguese brand specializing in high-quality cooking chocolate and confectionery. Named after the character from Rabelais' literature known for his vast appetite, the brand was launched in 1982 to fill a gap in the market for premium culinary chocolate. It is widely recognized by its distinctive packaging and its status as the market leader in the cooking chocolate segment in Portugal.
Today, the brand is owned and manufactured by Imperial - Produtos Alimentares, S.A., which is the largest national chocolate manufacturer in Portugal. Imperial itself is a subsidiary of the Spanish group Chocolates Valor, which acquired the company to expand its presence across the Iberian Peninsula. Production remains primarily centered in Vila do Conde, Portugal.
