The Macintosh, commonly known as the Mac, is a family of personal computers designed, manufactured, and sold by Apple Inc. since 1984. The product line originated with the legendary 128k model, which introduced a graphical user interface and mouse to the mass market, fundamentally changing how humans interact with technology.
While the brand was founded and developed in Cupertino, California, Apple utilizes a massive global supply chain for production. The vast majority of Mac assembly takes place in facilities in China operated by manufacturing partners such as Foxconn and Quanta Computer. In recent years, Apple has diversified its manufacturing footprint, shifting some production to Vietnam and maintaining a high-end assembly line for the Mac Pro in Austin, Texas, USA.
Today, Apple Inc. remains the ultimate owner of the Mac brand. It has grown from a garage startup founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne into one of the world's most valuable technology conglomerates. The brand continues to evolve through its own custom-designed Apple Silicon chips, maintaining a tightly integrated ecosystem of hardware and software.
