Henry is one of the world's most recognizable vacuum cleaners, characterized by its iconic 'face' and durable cord-rewind system. The vacuum was first developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s by Chris Duncan, who founded Numatic International. The character 'Henry' was officially introduced in 1981 to make the industrial cleaning experience more personable and less intimidating for domestic users.
While many global appliance manufacturers moved their production facilities to Asia to reduce costs, Numatic famously maintains its manufacturing hub in Somerset, England. The vast majority of Henry vacuums are still designed and built in the United Kingdom, which has contributed to the brand's reputation for high-quality engineering and reliability.
Ownership of the brand has remained private and independent since its inception. Unlike many competitors that have been acquired by large global conglomerates, Henry remains a British-run success story under the parent company Numatic International Ltd, which continues to export the product to over 100 countries worldwide.
