Poulain is one of the oldest and most iconic chocolate brands in France, founded by Victor-Auguste Poulain in 1848 in Blois. The '1848' line is a premium range that pays tribute to the brand's founding year, offering high-quality dark chocolate with high cocoa content. Historically, Poulain revolutionized the chocolate industry by mass-producing chocolate and using creative marketing strategies, such as including collectible cards in bars.
Over the decades, ownership of the brand has changed hands multiple times. It was acquired by Cadbury Schweppes in 1988, then fell under Kraft Foods (later Mondelēz International). In 2017, the brand was acquired by the French investment group Eurazeo through its company Carambar & Co. Today, while it is part of the Carambar & Co portfolio, the ultimate ownership is held by CPK Group (backed by Eurazeo), ensuring the brand remains under French corporate control and continues its manufacturing heritage in France.
