Marabou is a quintessential Swedish chocolate brand that has become a staple of Nordic confectionery culture. Founded in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, Marabou was established as a Swedish subsidiary of the Norwegian brand Freia. The brand's signature 'M' and its distinctive yellow packaging are iconic across Scandinavia, symbolizing quality and tradition in chocolate making.
While the brand originated in Sweden, its ownership has shifted significantly over the decades. Today, Marabou is owned by the American multinational conglomerate Mondelez International. Despite this global ownership, the primary production facility remains in Upplands Väsby, Sweden, where it has been since the early 20th century. The Apelsinkrokant variety specifically features smooth milk chocolate blended with crunchy orange-flavored pieces, representing a classic flavor profile in the Nordic market.
