The Schwarz Group is a family-owned multinational retail group that operates the well-known grocery brands Lidl and Kaufland. Based in Neckarsulm, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, it is the largest European retailer and one of the largest in the world by revenue. The group's origins date back to 1930 when Josef Schwarz joined the Südfrüchte Großhandel Lidl & Co. to form a fruit wholesale business. After World War II, the company was rebuilt, and under the leadership of Dieter Schwarz, the group expanded into the discount supermarket sector and hypermarkets.

Beyond retail, the Schwarz Group is vertically integrated. It owns private label production facilities under the Schwarz Produktion umbrella, manufacturing its own mineral water, chocolate, dried fruit, baked goods, and ice cream. Additionally, the group has expanded into environmental services with PreZero, focusing on waste management and recycling, and it operates its own cloud computing platform, STACKIT. The group remains under the ownership of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation and the Schwarz family, maintaining its status as a private, family-controlled powerhouse in the global economy.
