AMC Theatres, officially known as AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc., is the largest movie theater chain in the world. Founded in 1920 by the Dubinsky brothers, the company pioneered several industry standards, including the invention of the multiplex and the megaplex. The brand grew remarkably from its base in Kansas City to become a global leader in cinema exhibition.
While AMC was famously acquired by the Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group in 2012, the ownership structure shifted significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. By 2021, Wanda Group sold the majority of its stake, and AMC is now a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. The company is primarily owned by institutional and retail investors, with its corporate headquarters remaining in Leawood, Kansas. Their 'manufacturing' or service operations are predominantly based in the United States, though they maintain a strong presence in Europe through various subsidiaries.
