Nenea Iancu is a Romanian beer brand created as a nostalgic tribute to the famous Romanian playwright Ion Luca Caragiale, who was himself a celebrated beer enthusiast and entrepreneur in the late 19th century. Launched in 2012 to coincide with the 160th anniversary of Caragiale's birth, the brand was developed by the Romanian entrepreneurs behind the 'Berea Nenea Iancu' company in partnership with a German brewery.

While the brand's identity is deeply rooted in Romanian culture and history, the product is manufactured in Germany at the Memminger Brauerei in Bavaria. This production choice ensures that the beer adheres to the German Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) of 1516, utilizing traditional natural fermentation processes that distinguish it from mass-produced local lagers. The brand successfully blends Romanian literary heritage with high-quality German brewing standards.

The brand is privately owned by a Romanian entity and remains an independent venture within the premium craft beer segment of the Romanian market. It has expanded from its initial bottled offerings to include a dedicated restaurant and brewery-house in Bucharest, maintaining its status as a family-led business that celebrates interwar Romanian society.
