Lemon Soda is an iconic Italian carbonated beverage known for its use of Sicilian lemons and its distinctive pulp-flecked texture. Originally created in the 1940s by Milanese confectionery company Saga (part of the larger Italian food industry boom), it became a staple of Italian culture. The formula famously uses spring water from the Piedmont region and strictly prevents the use of artificial colorants or preservatives.
Over the decades, ownership shifted from local Italian hands to international conglomerates. It was acquired by the Campari Group in the late 1990s, where it became a cornerstone of their non-alcoholic portfolio. In 2017, the Danish multinational Royal Unibrew acquired the brand, along with OranSoda and PelmoSoda, to strengthen its presence in the Nordic and Italian soft drink markets. Today, the product continues to be manufactured in Italy, emphasizing its regional heritage with ingredients like Sicilian lemons and Piedmontese water.
