Ben & Jerry's is a world-renowned ice cream brand originally founded in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont. It gained fame not only for its chunky and imaginative flavors but also for its commitment to social and environmental causes, such as Fairtrade sourcing. The 'Topped' range is a specialized line featuring a thick layer of spoonable chocolatey ganache on top of the ice cream.
While the brand started in a renovated gas station in the United States, it was acquired by the multinational conglomerate Unilever in 2000. Despite the acquisition, Ben & Jerry's maintains a unique social mission and an independent Board of Directors. For the European market, products are typically manufactured at Unilever's state-of-the-art facility in Hellendoorn, Netherlands, while North American distribution is primarily served by plants in Vermont and Nevada.
