Splenda is a globally recognized brand of sugar substitute, most famous for its sucralose-based products. The brand was originally developed through a collaboration between the British company Tate & Lyle and the American pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. It was first commercialized in the United States in 1999 and quickly became a market leader in the tabletop sweetener category due to its stable flavor profile when heated.
Today, the brand is owned by Heartland Food Products Group, an American company based in Indiana. Heartland acquired Splenda from Johnson & Johnson's subsidiary, McNeil Nutritionals, in 2015. While the brand has deep roots in both the United Kingdom and the United States, its manufacturing processes are now distributed across multiple countries to serve global markets, including major facilities in the USA and Europe. The 'Sweet Minis' tablets are a popular format for portable, on-the-go sweetening of beverages.
