Philips Hue is a globally recognized pioneer in the smart home lighting industry. The brand was originally developed by the Dutch technology titan Royal Philips (Koninklijke Philips N.V.) as one of the first commercially viable connected lighting systems that could be controlled via smartphone apps.

In 2016, Philips spun off its lighting division into a separate entity originally called Philips Lighting, which was later rebranded to Signify N.V. in 2018. Despite the name change of the parent company, Signify continues to use the Philips brand name for its light bulbs and accessories under a long-term licensing agreement.

While the brand has its roots in Eindhoven, Netherlands, manufacturing is largely decentralized to meet global demand. Most consumer-facing lighting products are manufactured in China, though the company maintains a significant industrial presence in Poland and Mexico to serve the European and North American markets respectively.
