Helly Hansen is a renowned Norwegian brand that has specialized in professional-grade gear for over 140 years. Founded in 1877 by sea captain Helly Juell Hansen and his wife Maren Margrethe, the brand began by producing waterproof oilskin jackets and trousers designed to protect sailors from the harsh Nordic elements. Over the decades, the company pioneered several innovations in the outdoor industry, including the first fleece fabrics in the 1960s and the highly regarded Helly Tech® waterproof breathable technology.
While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in Moss, Norway, its manufacturing footprint is now global to meet international demand. Production primarily takes place in specialized facilities across Asia (such as Vietnam and China) and parts of Europe, adhering to technical specifications for performance wear. In 2018, the brand was acquired by Canadian Tire Corporation, which has since overseen its expansion as a global leader in sailing, skiing, and workwear apparel.
