Ben & Jerry's was founded in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont, United States, by childhood friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. The brand quickly became famous for its eccentric flavors, chunky textures, and a strong commitment to social and environmental causes. Originally starting in a renovated gas station, the company's authentic grassroots image propelled it to international success.
In 2000, Ben & Jerry's was acquired by the British multinational Unilever. Despite the acquisition, the brand maintains a unique independent board of directors that oversees its social mission and product quality. Production is decentralized; while much of the US stock is produced in Vermont, European distribution is largely handled by manufacturing facilities in Hellendoorn, Netherlands, and other regional hubs.
The 'Cookie Vermont-ster Sundae' is part of their topped range, featuring sweet cream ice cream with chocolate chip cookies and chocolatey cookie swirls, topped with whipped ice cream and sea salt chocolatey swirls. It remains one of the most recognizable premium ice cream brands globally under Unilever's specialized refreshment division.
