Cisk Lager is Malta's most iconic beverage, widely recognized for its golden color and distinctive branding. First brewed in 1928, the beer was introduced by the Scicluna family, who were prominent bankers in Malta. The name 'Cisk' originates from the nickname given to Giuseppe Scicluna, 'Iċ-Ċisk,' which was a local corruption of the word 'cheque,' reflecting the family's banking background.
Today, the brand is produced by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc at their state-of-the-art brewery in Mrieħel, Malta. Despite global competition, the brand remains an independent Maltese entity, deeply rooted in the island's culture and history. Over the decades, Cisk has won numerous international awards for its quality and taste, solidifying its place as a beverage of international standing while maintaining its status as the national beer of Malta.
