Ursus is one of Romania's most iconic long-standing beer brands, often referred to as 'The King of Beer in Romania' (Regele Berii în România), a slogan visible on its packaging. The brand traces its roots back to 1878 in Cluj-Napoca, where it was established as a premium lager producer. Over the decades, it has become a staple of Romanian culture, known for its distinct bear logo and golden-yellow lager.

While originally a local Romanian enterprise, the brand's success led to its acquisition by global brewing giants. After being owned by SABMiller for many years, Ursus Breweries became part of the Asahi Group Holdings portfolio following a major divestment deal in 2017. Today, the beer is produced primarily in Romanian breweries located in Buzău, Timișoara, and Brașov, maintaining its local heritage under international management.
