Sachtler is a globally recognized brand in the professional cinematography and broadcasting industry, best known for its high-quality fluid heads and tripod systems. The brand was founded in 1958 by Wendelin Sachtler, a cinematographer and inventor from Munich, Germany, who developed the first fluid-damped camera head to allow for smoother camera movements. This innovation became a standard in the film and television industry.
Over the decades, Sachtler expanded its portfolio to include carbon fiber tripods and advanced camera stabilization systems. While the brand originated as a family-run German enterprise, it was eventually acquired by the Vitec Group (now known as Videndum plc). Today, while high-end engineering and assembly often take place at the Videndum production facilities in Germany, some components and mid-range products are manufactured in international facilities located in Costa Rica and China to meet global demand.
