Solgar is a premium nutritional supplement brand that has been a staple in the wellness industry since its founding in 1947. Originally established in New Jersey, USA, by Nat Colby, Mike Goldfarb, and Carl Zoll, the brand gained a reputation for its distinctive amber glass bottles and commitment to 'The Gold Standard' in quality. Solgar was one of the first companies to manufacture vitamins and minerals with a focus on avoiding artificial fillers and allergens.
Over the decades, the brand has undergone several ownership changes as the global supplement market consolidated. After being part of the Wyeth and then Pfizer portfolios via acquisitions, Solgar was eventually acquired by the private equity firm KKR through its Nature's Bounty Co. platform. In 2021, Nestlé Health Science reached an agreement to acquire the core brands of The Nature’s Bounty Co., including Solgar, for $5.75 billion.
Today, Solgar operates as a key premium brand under the Nestlé Health Science umbrella. While the brand maintains its American roots and significant manufacturing facilities in Leonia, New Jersey, it is now globally distributed and managed by its Swiss parent company, Nestlé. The brand continues to focus on small-batch production and rigorous testing to maintain its historical image of premium quality and scientific integrity.
