The brand started in 2009 in a backyard in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where the founders originally produced fruit juices and smoothies. They eventually expanded into the 'Limo' (lemonade) and Cola market, focusing on organic ingredients and fair-trade practices.

While the brand maintains its independent, artisanal image, it is actually part of a larger corporate structure. It is currently owned by the Krombacher group, one of Germany's largest private brewery collectives. This partnership has allowed Proviant to scale its distribution across Germany while maintaining its recipe and sourcing standards. The product is primarily manufactured in Germany, often utilizing local bottling facilities to maintain a smaller carbon footprint.
