Göteborgs Rapé is one of Sweden's oldest and most iconic snus brands, originally inspired by the blends brought home by sailors in the port of Gothenburg. The 'Rapé' in its name refers to the French 'râpé', meaning 'grated', which was the traditional method used to prepare the tobacco.

The brand has been under the stewardship of Swedish Match for decades. In recent years, ownership has shifted to the global pharmaceutical and tobacco giant Philip Morris International (PMI) following a successful acquisition offer completed in late 2022. Despite this international ownership, the production remains deeply rooted in Sweden, with primary manufacturing facilities located in Gothenburg and Kungälv, ensuring that the traditional quality and flavor profile are preserved for the Swedish and Scandinavian markets.
