Founded in 1969 by Doug Warbrick and Brian Singer in Torquay, Victoria, Australia, Rip Curl has grown from a local surfboard and wetsuit manufacturer into one of the most iconic surfing brands globally. Originally established to produce high-performance wetsuits for Cold Water Surfing, the brand quickly diversified into surfing apparel, technical watches, and mountainwear.
In 2019, Rip Curl was acquired by Kathmandu Holdings, which was later rebranded as KMD Brands. While the brand maintains its creative roots and international headquarters in Australia, its manufacturing is distributed globally, primarily across Southeast Asia. Today, Rip Curl remains a pillar of the 'big three' surf brands, known for its technical innovation and sponsorship of world-class professional surfing competitions.
