Quorn is a pioneering global brand in the meat-substitute market, famous for its use of mycoprotein, a nutritious protein source derived from the fungus Fusarium venenatum. The brand was originally conceived in the 1960s as a solution to potential global food shortages and was commercially launched in the UK in 1985 through a joint venture between Marlow Foods and ICI.
Today, Quorn is owned by Monde Nissin, a major food corporation based in the Philippines, which acquired the brand in 2015 to expand its healthy and sustainable food portfolio. Most Quorn products are manufactured in the United Kingdom, specifically in Stokesley and Billingham, North Yorkshire, where the fermentation process takes place.
