Aprilia originated in Noale, Italy, shortly after World War II. Founded by Alberto Beggio, it began as a bicycle manufacturer before transitioning to scooters and small-displacement motorcycles under the leadership of his son, Ivano Beggio.

Today, Aprilia is recognized globally as a high-performance brand, significantly influenced by its extensive racing pedigree in MotoGP and Superbike World Championships. Most of its high-end motorcycles, including the flagship RSV4, continue to be engineered and assembled at the historic Noale factory and the Scorzè plant in Italy.

Since 2004, Aprilia has been a key subsidiary of the Piaggio Group, one of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers. This ownership has allowed Aprilia to expand its reach while maintaining its identity as an Italian luxury and performance brand. While high-performance models remain strictly Italian-made, the brand utilizes the Piaggio Group's global manufacturing network for smaller displacement models targeted at international markets.
