Ducati is a world-renowned Italian brand synonymous with high-performance motorcycles and racing excellence. Founded in 1926 in Bologna, Italy, the company initially focused on radio components before transitioning to motorized transport after World War II with the 'Cucciolo' engine. Today, Ducati is celebrated for its distinctive design, L-twin and V4 engines, and its dominant presence in MotoGP and World Superbike championships.
While the heart of the brand remains in the Borgo Panigale district of Bologna, where the majority of motorcycles are handcrafted by expert engineers, production has expanded globally to meet international demand. Ducati currently operates assembly plants in Thailand and Brazil, and it recently established a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly line in Argentina through a partnership with Volkswagen Group Argentina.
Since 2012, Ducati has been under the ultimate ownership of the Volkswagen Group. It is technically a subsidiary of Audi AG through the luxury car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. This alignment with Volkswagen's premium brands has provided Ducati with significant technical resources while allowing it to maintain its autonomous Italian identity and engineering heritage.
