Pirelli is one of the world's most iconic tyre manufacturers, with a heritage deeply rooted in Italian industrial history and motorsport. Founded in Milan in 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli, the brand initially specialized in rubber and derivative processes before becoming a pioneer in automotive tyre technology. Today, it is recognized globally for its high-performance products, particularly its 'P Zero' and 'Cinturato' families, and its exclusive role as the sole tyre supplier for Formula 1.
While the brand's creative and technological heart remains in Italy, manufacturing is a global operation. Pirelli operates 18 production plants across 12 countries, including Italy, Brazil, China, Germany, Mexico, Romania, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This distributed manufacturing footprint allows the company to serve premium and prestige car manufacturers and consumers worldwide with regionally optimized Logistics.
Ownership of the brand has evolved significantly in the 21st century. In 2015, the Chinese state-owned enterprise ChemChina (which later merged with Sinochem) became the dominant shareholder. As we look toward 2026 and beyond, Pirelli exists as a publicly traded company on the Milan Stock Exchange, with the Sinochem Holdings Corporation serving as the ultimate owner and largest shareholder. Despite this international corporate structure, the company maintains its global headquarters and research centers in Milan, preserving its Italian identity and design philosophy.
