Belhaven Brewery, located in Dunbar, East Lothian, is one of Scotland's oldest and most historic brewing institutions. Established in 1719, its name translates to 'Beautiful Harbour,' reflecting its scenic coastal location. The brewery has built a prestigious reputation over three centuries for producing traditional Scottish ales, stouts, and lagers, including its famous Belhaven Best and Belhaven Black stout. The brand remains deeply rooted in Scottish heritage, utilizing local barley and traditional brewing methods.
While the brewery maintains its traditional manufacturing site in Scotland, its corporate ownership has transitioned through major international hospitality groups. In 2005, the brewery was acquired by the English pub and brewing giant Greene King. More recently, in 2019, Greene King was acquired by CK Asset Holdings, a multinational conglomerate based in Hong Kong. Despite these changes in high-level corporate ownership, the brand continues to be marketed as a quintessential Scottish product with its physical production firmly anchored in its original Dunbar home.
