Motorola Mobility's legacy dates back to the original Motorola Inc., founded in Chicago in 1928, which pioneered the development of the first mobile phone. After the original company split into two separate entities in 2011, Motorola Mobility became the consumer-facing mobile device arm.
Initially acquired by Google in 2012, the brand was later sold to Lenovo in 2014. Under Lenovo's ownership, Motorola has maintained its brand identity while leveraging a global supply chain. Most manufacturing is concentrated in China, although the company maintains operations in Brazil for South American markets and has engineering headquarters in the United States. Today, the brand is a core part of Lenovo's Mobile Business Group, focusing on smartphones and integrated hardware solutions.
