Piz Buin is a specialized sun care brand with a history dating back to 1946. It was inspired by the experience of Franz Greiter, a chemistry student who suffered sunburn while climbing the Piz Buin mountain on the Swiss-Austrian border, leading him to develop one of the world's first sun protection products.
While the brand has alpine roots, its manufacturing is currently handled across various European facilities, with a significant amount of production occurring in Greece. The brand underwent a major ownership change in early 2024 when Kenvue, the consumer health spin-off from Johnson & Johnson, sold the Piz Buin brand to the French pharmaceutical and dermo-cosmetic company, Laboratoires Théa.
Today, Laboratoires Théa, headquartered in Clermont-Ferrand, France, is the ultimate owner of the brand. This acquisition marks a shift from a mass-market consumer conglomerate to a company deeply rooted in dermatological science and eye care.
