The term 'Rapé' refers to the French 'râpé', meaning shredded or grated tobacco. It was officially trademarked by the Swedish Tobacco Monopoly in 1919.

Today, the brand is manufactured by Swedish Match, which has modern production facilities in Gothenburg and Kungälv. The 'ONE' series, featured in the image, is a contemporary extension of the classic brand, offering larger pouches and a thinner paper for a more immediate flavor experience.

Historically a Swedish-owned company, Swedish Match was acquired by the American multinational Philip Morris International (PMI) in late 2022. While the brand remains deeply rooted in Swedish culture and continues to be produced in Swedish factories, its ultimate ownership now lies with PMI, based in the United States.
