Founded in London, United Kingdom, in 1962 by Jim Marshall, the company originally gained fame for its powerful guitar amplifiers. While Marshall Amplification continues to produce its world-renowned professional audio equipment in the UK, the lifestyle arm of the brand—which includes consumer headphones and Bluetooth speakers—is managed through a long-term licensing partnership. This consumer line was developed by the Swedish company Zound Industries. In 2023, Zound Industries officially acquired Marshall Amplification to form the Marshall Group, uniting the legacy amp business with the modern consumer electronics division.

Manufacturing for the lifestyle products, such as the Major series headphones and Emberton speakers, is largely carried out in China to meet global demand, while high-end professional amplifiers are still hand-built in Milton Keynes, England. The brand remains a global symbol of high-fidelity sound and classic rock aesthetic.
