Maarud is one of Norway's most iconic snack brands, famously known for being the first company to introduce potato chips (Potetgull) to the Norwegian market back in 1936. The brand's history is deeply rooted in the Maarud farm in Sør-Odal, where production originally began. For decades, it has remained a staple of Norwegian snack culture, consistently being a market leader in the salty snacks category.

While the brand reflects its Norwegian heritage through its production facilities in Disenå, Norway, its ownership has transitioned over the years. Originally a family-owned venture, the brand was later part of the Kraft Foods/Mondelez portfolio before being acquired by Herkules Capital. In 2014, Maarud became part of the German Intersnack Group. Today, the brand operates under the Intersnack umbrella, benefiting from international distribution networks while maintaining its local manufacturing and brand identity in the Nordic region.
