Originally formulated in 1961 by Block Drug, a Brooklyn-based pharmaceutical company, the brand quickly became a staple for consumers suffering from dentin hypersensitivity. Over the decades, the brand has introduced various specialized formulas, including the 'Gum & Enamel' line shown here, which aims to protect enamel and soothe gum irritation simultaneously.

The brand underwent a major ownership change in 2001 when GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) acquired Block Drug. In 2022, GSK spun off its consumer healthcare division into a new independent entity called Haleon. Today, Sensodyne is the flagship brand of Haleon, which is headquartered in Weybridge, United Kingdom.
