VARTA is a historic German brand, originally founded as Busche & Müller in 1887 and later becoming VARTA (Vertrieb, Aufladung, Reparatur Transportabler Akkumulatoren) in 1904. The brand represents a significant legacy in the energy storage industry.
While the brand has deep German roots and maintains corporate headquarters in Ellwangen, Germany, manufacturing has expanded globally. As indicated on the packaging, this specific 9V battery variant is manufactured in Malaysia. The ownership of VARTA has been split into different divisions; the consumer battery segment shown here is currently owned by Energizer Holdings, Inc., an American multinational company.
Energizer acquired VARTA's consumer battery division to strengthen its global market share in the portable power sector. Today, VARTA continues to be recognized for German engineering and reliability, even under American corporate ownership and Southeast Asian production.
