Senseo is a renowned coffee brewing system that revolutionized the home coffee experience through the introduction of pre-portioned coffee pods. Launched in the early 2000s, it was born from a strategic partnership between the Dutch electronics giant Philips and the iconic Dutch coffee roaster Douwe Egberts. The system combines a pressurized brewing machine with unique filter-paper pods to produce a characteristic layer of crema.
While the machines are typically engineered by Philips and manufactured in various global locations including Poland and China, the coffee pods themselves are produced in specialized facilities primarily across Europe, including the Netherlands. Over the years, ownership of the coffee side of the brand transitioned as Douwe Egberts evolved, eventually becoming part of the global coffee titan JDE Peet's. Today, Senseo stands as a leading European coffee brand, maintaining its heritage of Dutch innovation while serving a massive international market.
