Manufacturing for Abbott products is geographically dispersed to serve local markets efficiently. For instance, much of their infant formula and medical nutrition for the European and Asian markets is produced in major facilities in Cootehill, Ireland, and Zwolle, Netherlands, while North American supplies are largely manufactured in the United States and Canada.

Abbott Laboratories remains an independent, publicly traded multinational corporation. Over the years, it has undergone significant restructuring, most notably the 2013 spin-off of its research-based pharmaceutical division into a separate company called AbbVie.
