Valorant is a free-to-play first-person tactical hero shooter developed and published by Riot Games. The game was first teased under the codename Project A in October 2019 and was officially released on June 2, 2020. It combines elements of tactical shooters like Counter-Strike with character-based abilities similar to Overwatch.

While the intellectual property and primary development are led by Riot Games in the United States, the game is served through a global network of data centers distributed across North America, Europe, Asia, and other regions to ensure low-latency gameplay. The brand's ownership transitioned to Tencent Holdings after the Chinese conglomerate acquired a majority stake and eventually full ownership of Riot Games, making it one of the largest properties in the global esports portfolio.
