Märklin is the world's leading brand in the model railway industry, renowned for its high-quality metal construction and technical precision. Founded in 1859 in Göppingen, Germany, by Theodor Friedrich Wilhelm Märklin, the company originally specialized in dollhouse accessories before revolutionizing the toy industry with the first wind-up train with a expandable track system in 1891.
Today, the brand is celebrated for its H0 gauge (1:87 scale) systems, as well as its specialist Z scale (1:220) and large-scale Gauge 1 models. While much of the high-end production and development remain centered at its historic headquarters in Göppingen, Germany, the company also operates a significant manufacturing facility in Győr, Hungary, to handle global demand.
After facing financial difficulties in the early 21st century, Märklin was acquired in 2013 by the Simba Dickie Group, a major German toy manufacturer owned by the Sieber family. Under this ownership, the brand has seen a resurgence, integrating modern digital controls while maintaining the heritage and craftsmanship that collectors have valued for over 160 years.
