Pro TV is one of Romania's most influential and highly-rated private television channels. Launched on December 1, 1995, it quickly became a cornerstone of post-communist Romanian media, introducing modern broadcasting standards and a wide variety of entertainment, news, and sports content. The channel's signature news program, Pro TV News, is among the most watched in the country and has received international recognition for its journalism.
While the brand was originally developed and popularized by Romanian media mogul Adrian Sârbu through MediaPro, the ownership eventually transitioned to Central European Media Enterprises (CME). This shift brought the Romanian broadcaster into a regional network of television stations across Central and Eastern Europe. Under this ownership, Pro TV has continued to produce high-budget local adaptations of international formats like 'The Voice' and 'Got Talent', alongside high-quality local dramas and investigative news.
Today, the ultimate ownership of Pro TV lies with the PPF Group, a major international investment company based in the Czech Republic. PPF Group acquired CME in 2020, solidifying its position in the European telecommunications and media markets. This ownership ensures that Pro TV remains a leading media player in Romania with significant financial backing and regional synergy with other CME-operated channels in Slovakia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic.
