The Philips Series 2200 is part of the brand's popular automatic coffee machine lineup. Philips, a historic Dutch electronics company, entered the coffee market significantly through various innovations and the acquisition of the Italian espresso pioneer Saeco. While the brand is traditionally associated with the Netherlands, its home appliance division, which includes these coffee machines, underwent a major change in ownership recently.
In 2021, Philips sold its Domestic Appliances business to Hillhouse Capital, a global investment firm. This division now operates under the name Versuni, though it continues to use the Philips brand name under license. Manufacturing for these espresso machines is primarily concentrated in Europe, specifically at their large production facility in Romania, though certain components or entry-level models may involve production in China. The brand represents a blend of Dutch heritage, Italian espresso engineering (via Saeco technology), and modern global investment ownership.
