Solo is one of Norway's most iconic and culturally significant soft drinks, recognized for its distinct orange flavor and high juice content (typically 8%). Launched in 1934, the drink's recipe was originally developed in Spain by Dr. Trigo as 'Naranjina Solo'. It was brought to Norway by Torleif Gulliksrud and first produced at Tønsberg Bryggeri. For decades, Solo was the most popular soda in Norway, even outselling global giants like Coca-Cola until the 1960s.
Today, the brand remains a staple of Norwegian life, particularly associated with Easter and outdoor activities like skiing. The ownership structure is unique, managed through a consortium called AS Solo. While several independent Norwegian breweries like Mack and Oskar Sylte maintain ownership stakes, the largest shareholder and primary distributor is Ringnes, which is a subsidiary of the Danish multinational Carlsberg Group.
