Solo is one of Norway's most iconic beverage brands, known for its distinct orange flavor and high juice content. Launched in 1934 by Torleif Gulliksrud, it was originally based on the recipe for the Spanish beverage 'Naranjina' (the precursor to Orangina). For decades, it was the most popular soda in Norway until it was eventually surpassed by global brands.
The product is primarily manufactured in Norway by Ringnes, which holds the production rights as part of the Solo AS consortium. The ownership structure is unique, with several Norwegian breweries sharing ownership through Solo AS, while the Ringnes brewery—the largest shareholder—manages the majority of commercial operations. Ringnes is a subsidiary of the Danish multinational Carlsberg Group, which serves as the ultimate owner of the brand's production and distribution network.
