Canson is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious names in fine art paper, with a legacy dating back to 1557 in Annonay, France. Founded by the Montgolfier family, the company transitioned into the Canson name in 1801 and has since become synonymous with high-quality surfaces for artists, including its famous 'C á grain' paper. Throughout centuries, Canson has been the choice of legendary artists such as Degas, Matisse, and Picasso.
Today, the brand is widely recognized for its diverse range of products, including the Artist Series Canva-Paper designed for oil and acrylic paints. While its historical heart remained in France for centuries, the brand's ownership transitioned to the Italian Fila Group in 2016. This acquisition integrated Canson into a global portfolio of creative tools, expanding its reach across international markets while maintaining traditional European manufacturing standards.
