As a private label product of the Albert Heijn supermarket chain, it represents one of the most recognizable store brands in the Netherlands.

The brand originated in 1887 when Albert Heijn Sr. took over his father's grocery store in Zaandam. Over more than a century, it grew into the largest supermarket chain in the country. Today, the brand is owned by Ahold Delhaize, a major international food retail group formed by the merger of Ahold and Delhaize in 2016. While the sprinkles are primarily manufactured in the Netherlands to suit local tastes, the parent company operates globally with a headquarters in Zaandam.
