S.T. Dupont is a world-renowned French manufacturer of luxury lighters, writing instruments, and leather goods. Founded in 1872 by Simon Tissot-Dupont, the company initially gained fame for its high-quality travel trunks and leather accessories for the European elite. The brand pivoted toward lighters during World War II when leather became scarce and a client, the Maharaja of Patiala, requested a solid gold lighter as a cigarette case accessory.

Today, S.T. Dupont lighters are handcrafted in Faverges, France, in the Haute-Savoie region. Each lighter is meticulously assembled, often involving over 600 separate operations and hundreds of hours of labor. The brand is particularly famous for its 'Ligne 2' models and the iconic 'Cling' sound made when opening the lid. While the brand changed hands over the decades, it has maintained its status as a symbol of French craftsmanship and luxury, often producing limited editions for collectors and diplomats.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned from the founding family to professional investment groups. Since the late 1980s, the company has been under the control of Hong Kong-based luxury goods firm Dickson Concepts, which has helped expand the brand's global footprint, particularly in Asian markets, while preserving its traditional French manufacturing heritage.
