Zig-Zag is a world-renowned brand primarily known for its cigarette rolling papers. The brand was founded in 1879 by Maurice and Jacques Braunstein in Paris, France. They famously patented the process of interleaving papers so that they would dispense one at a time, creating the 'zig-zag' pattern that gave the brand its iconic name. The logo features 'Le Zouave,' a French North African soldier, which has become a symbol of the brand's long-standing heritage.
Today, Zig-Zag is a global brand with complex ownership. While it originated in France, the North American rights are owned by Turning Point Brands, based in the United States. In most other international markets, including Europe, the brand remains under the stewardship of Republic Technologies (part of the Republic Group). Most Zig-Zag papers continue to be manufactured in France, specifically in the Alsace region, maintaining the high quality and FSC-certified standards the brand is known for.
