Ilford is a legendary name in the photography industry, founded in 1879 by Alfred Hugh Harman in Ilford, London. Historically famous for its high-quality black-and-white photographic films, papers, and chemicals, the brand represents a bridge between traditional analog photography and modern digital imaging. Over its long history, the company underwent various ownership changes, including acquisitions by ICI and Ciba-Geigy.
In the early 21st century, the brand's assets were split due to financial restructuring. The traditional black-and-white film manufacturing business was acquired by HARMAN technology Ltd, which continues to manufacture film products in Mobberley, United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the inkjet and digital imaging division, known as Ilford Imaging Europe, became a separate entity. Today, while the film legacy remains rooted in the UK, the brand's modern presence is managed by international consortia focusing on high-end digital media solutions.
